The VIP-2 is a simplified and standardized xray film-positioning, xray beam-directing system for intraoral radiography designed by: WILLIAM J. UPDEGRAVE, D.D.S.

The diagnostic value of dental radiographs is largely dependent on their geometric accuracy and anatomic fidelity. To produce radiographs which routinely manifest these characteristics, the Right Angle principle must be followed. The VIP-2 System has been designed to accomplish the Right Angle technic, using the short (8") or long (16") directing tube.

The VIP-2 System Consists Of:

  • 1 Coupler
  • 1 Target
  • 12 Film Holders- including the "All Purpose Periapical" film holders with built in backing support.
  • 12 Slip-On Bite Pads for patient comfort and stability.

THE TARGET AND COUPLER

The TARGET acts as the guide for accurate positioning of the directing tube of your xray unit. When aligned with the face of the directing tube, the TARGET assures the proper horizontal and vertical relationship between the xray beam and the xray film.

The COUPLER connects the TARGET with the film holder.

THE FILM HOLDERS and
BITE PADS

ALL PURPOSE (blue) FILM HOLDERS: recommended for all routine periapical exposures, both anterior and posterior.

THE VERSATILE (white) FILM HOLDERS: are recommended for special case periapical (small mouth, missing teeth, etc.), and for all bite-wing radiography.

BITE PADS are used on the Film Holders for patient comfort and film stability. The are not used for bite-wing radiographs.
